Luton First Teaching School Alliance (LFTSA)

We are an established cross-phase alliance of fourteen school partners, an initial teacher training provider and the local authority.
As our corporate name suggests, we are passionate about the attainment and achievement of the young people of Luton and indeed, throughout Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and beyond.

We believe a world class system of education is embedded in the spirit of partnership and a sharing of the expertise within that family of providers.
To this end, we offer bespoke cross-phase school to school support packages that focus on the quality of teaching and learning, curriculum development and all aspects of leadership and management. We look forward to working ‘with’ you.

About Us – How it all started

The journey to acquire Teaching School status began in March 2011 with a visit to Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. Invited speakers eruditely presented their vision of the future of education, the central platform of which was the establishment of a network of Teaching School Alliances to provide a plethora of services including School to School support, CPD and Succession Planning. The Teaching School concept, we were informed, was based on the Teaching Hospital Model, which had served the Health Service for a number of years by providing Clinical Excellence in Training and Research.
This initial meeting led to the establishment of the ‘Luton First’ Teaching School Alliance which was made up of 12 schools working with the Local Authority and the ‘Shire SCITT’. The schools involved represented the 5 geographical partnerships that Luton is administratively divided into and consisted of all Key Stage phases, incorporating nursery and Special School provision.

The Alliance offers a warm welcome to any school which wishes to utilise any of the Programmes offered or request to become Associate Members. Although called ‘Luton First’, the Alliance’s support to schools is not limited to the confines of the Borough of Luton. We already have an excellent working relationship with our twin Teaching School, ‘Bovingdon and The Hammond’ in Hemel Hempstead and have established links with ‘All Saints’ School in Houghton Regis and ‘Holy Family’ school in Welwyn Garden City

Currently the members of the alliance are:

Hillborough Junior
Hillborough Infant
Tennyson Road Primary
Chapel Street Nursery

Ashcroft High School has robust and rigorous safeguarding procedures and takes its responsibilities of child protection seriously. Female Genital Mutilation is a form of child abuse and as such is dealt with under the schools Safeguarding policy. The Headteacher and Governors expect Safeguarding to be everybody’s responsibility and expect all staff to adhere to and follow these policies.
